Kemi, Finland

Kemi is a town in Finnish Lapland, at the northernmost tip of the Gulf of Bothnia. It is located right in the heart of Finland, very near of the city of Tornio.

Most of its tourists are drawn by two wintery sights: its world famous Lumilinna Snow Castle & Hotel and the unique chance to cruise on the Sampo icebreaker. Sampo cruises run three times a week and takes up to 150 passengers on a four-and-a-half-hour cruise through the crunchy ice of the Gulf of Bothnia, the largest expanse of solid ice in Europe.

Kemi also has a claim to fame as the home of the world's largest snow castle (reconstructed every year with a different architecture). The snowcastle is usually located at the inner harbour of Kemi.
