Savona is a seaport and comune in the northern Italian region of Liguria, capital of the Province of Savona, in the Riviera di Ponente on the Mediterranean Sea, at sea-level.
On first impressions Savona is far from attractive, however away from the port you will find much of the medieval centre still remains. The main focus is on the impressive Priamàr fortress which overlooks the sea and is also home to a number of museums, an art gallery.
Savona is also a modern and practical city with a good selection of shops, restaurants and bars. There are also plenty of fine beaches in and around the city.
