Entre-os-Rios, Portugal

Entre-os-Rios is situated 30 kilometres(19 miles) inland from the sea on the Douro River in the Penafiel, Tamega, Norte, or north-east Portugal. A bridge links Entre os Rios and Castelo de Paiva.

Most cruises are round trips from Porto at the mouth of the Douro River, one of Europe's most untouched and beautiful rivers. Rising in the hills north of Madrid, The Douro River meanders through northern Portugal to the fascinating city of Porto and then into the Atlantic.

The Douro River takes you on a winding easterly course between steeply terraced vineyards, stopping at ports of call, including Entre-os-Rios. This area of Portugal has been largely unchanged for centuries. The towns are charming; there are colorful castles, panoramnic vistas, baroque mansions and historic monasteries. Some cruises go further on into Spain to visit the medieval city of Salamanca. The food specialities in this region of Portugal come from unspoiled land and waterways and include salt cod, hearty soups and stews. The area is famous for its sensational ruby and tawny ports. If you have never visited Portugal, you are in for a treat; or, you will see a totally different side of this beautiful country on the Douro River with all the delights it holds.

Cruises generally commence in Spring (March) and the main season ends in September/October. However, it is worth knowing that a limited number of cruises are available up to Christmas and New Year.
