Millegrand is a river port of call in the Aude department of southwestern France, located on the Canal du Midi. From here visit Lagrasse, a beautiful village where many artisans have set up workshops in the medieval centre. Nearby is a restored 8th century Benedictine Abbey.
There are horse riding stables at Millegrand, only a ten-minute walk away along the Canal du Midi. No experience is necessary and a ride along the Canal and vineyards will cost around €20. This area also offers rambling, tennis, swimming, wine tasting, live theatre and concerts, amusement parks, wildlife parks, hiking, sailing with tuition at a nearby lake, canoeing, kayaking, water-skiing, para-sailing, jet skiing, windsurfing and other board sports are organised close by and even white water rafting is available for the more daring.
There are also several spa towns in the area that you can visit in order to 'take the waters', such as Rennes-les-Bains or Alet-les-Bains. Fishing enthusiasts take note, don’t forget your rod…it is only a few minutes’ walk from the River Aude and there is fantastic fishing outside your front door on the Canal du Midi itself, with sea fishing less than an hour away.
A well known wine region of France, Millegrand has many places for "degustations" (wine tasting) and produces amongst other varieties, an award winning ‘Merlot’.
All cruises are on River Boats and today these are mostly luxury 5 star boats with all the comforts of top hotels and many of the facilities of cruise ships. Cruises generally commence in Spring (March) and the main season ends in September/October, however a limited number of cruises are available up to Christmas and New Year.
There are more than 30 cruises calling at the port of Millegrand.
