Shumshu Island is a Russian Territory is the second-northernmost island of the Kuril Islands chain, sitting on the division of the Sea of Okhotsk from the northwest Pacific Ocean. The Island has a population of around 100 and derived its name from the Ainu language, meaning good island.It is 11 kilometres, from Cape Lopatka at the southern tip of the Kamchatka Peninsula.
