Kosrae, Micronesia

Kosrae is the eastern-most of the Caroline Islands and located approximately 600km north of the equator between Guam and the Hawaiian Islands.

A high island, largely unspoiled, Kosrae is becoming a destination for hikers and scuba divers, with coral reefs surrounding the island kept in pristine condition by an extensive mooring buoy system. The reefs are seldom visited and contain miles of hard corals some of which are said to be thousands of years old.

Kosrae is ringed by miles of white sandy beaches. The dense vegetation and steep mountains keep the island largely undeveloped. Viewed from the sea, the island's distinct shape resembles a female body. This has led to the island being called "the island of the sleeping lady".
