Levuka, Fiji

Levuka is a town on the south-east coast of the Fijian island of Ovalau, in Lomaiviti Province, just off the main island of Viti Levu. Ovalau is a lush tropical volcanic island surrounded by large coral reefs. At the northern end of Levuka is the traditional Fijian village of Levuka, where the village chief is a direct descendant of the chief who welcomed the first European settlers.

Popular activities in Lavuka include a historical town tour, a daytrip to Silana (10km from Levuka), and a trip to Lovoni in central Ovalau. Other attractions include the Levuka Museum and Community Centre, a wide variety of water sports and visits to nearby islands.

Port Location – There is a port located on the outskirts of Levuka town, on the eastern coast of Ovalau island.

Transport Links – Air Fiji has two flights daily, seven days a week from Suva to Levuka (Bureta airstrip) with a flying time of approx.12mins. The airstrip, approx. 40 minutes from the town, is on the western side of the island and is serviced by a local bus.
Patterson Brothers shipping has a daily bus and ferry service from Suva to Levuka. The trip takes 4.5 hours.
