Jeffersonville has a long history of ship building and steamboats were key to its early economy. The history of shipbuilding in Jeffersonville is the focus of the Howard Steamboat Museum. The Museum tells the Howard family story, their mansion and the history of their shipyards. The museum also aims to foster an appreciation of the development of river steamboats and commerce along inland rivers.
