Tarascon is is a commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in southern France. It is located 23 km (14 mi) south of Avignon and 20 km (12 mi) north of Arles, on the left (east) bank of the Rhône River.
Tarascon is an ancient fortified town. Its medieval sites feature 15th-century Roi Rene's chateau, the 12th-14th-century Saint Martha collegiate church (both located in the center beside the main river bridge) and the 15th-century Saint Jacques church with its lovely Cordeliers cloister.
