Battambang is the capital city of Battambang province in northwestern Cambodia. It is situated by the Sangkae River and features some of the best preserved French colonial architecture in the country. It is a popular tourist destination due to the many ancient temples, Buddhist shrines and the infamous bamboo railway.
Battambang has a number of fine early-20th-century French colonial buildings. Most of the colonial buildings can be found along the waterfront. Other attractions include Battambang Museum, the Governor’s Residence and a number of Angkor-type temples.
