Pakse is the capital and most populous city in the southern province of Champasak. It is situated at the confluence of the Xe Don and Mekong Rivers. Pakse is one of the biggest towns in Laos and a major transport hub for southern Laos.
Pakse is a good base for travel to the Bolaven Plateau and Si Phan Don. It is also considered a staging point for archeological tourists who can use the Champasak Provincial Museum as an introductory to local archeology.
