Maizuru is a city and one of the main port cities located in Kyōto, Japan, on an inlet of the Sea of Japan. Maizuru is a city rich in nature, located on the scenic Maizuru Bay. It consists of two parts: Nishi-Maizuru and Higashi-Maizuru.

The ruins of Fukuoka Castle is one of Maizuru's main attractions. It is located in the middle of the city in Maizuru Park. Only ruined walls and a few turrets remain, however the park also has walking trails and a few lookout points. The best time to visit the castle ruins is usually between late March and early April, when Maizuru Park turns into the city's most pleasant spot for cherry blossom viewing.

Travel Links - Higashi-Maizuru Station is served by eight limited express trains daily from Kyoto Station, six under the name Maizuru and two as Tango Discovery. The journey takes around 2 hours and you need to change trains at Sonobe and Ayabe.

The bus company Kyoto Kotsu has buses running from Kyoto central train station to Higashi-Maizuru train station. The journey takes around 2 hours. The same bus company has buses going to Maizuru from Kobe and Osaka.
