Lyme Regis is a coastal town in West Dorset, England, situated 25 miles west of Dorchester and 25 miles (40 km) east of Exeter. It is an historic unspoiled seaside resort and fishing port on the world famous Cobb harbour. Surrounded by beautiful coastlines and countryside, the area has now been awarded World Heritage Site Status; famous for its geology and fossil finds.
Lyme Regis is well known for “The Cobb”, a harbour wall known full of history and character. It is an important feature in Jane Austen's novel Persuasion (1818), and in the film The French Lieutenant's Woman. Fossil hunting is also an attraction in Lyme Regis. Fossils can be found in front of the cliffs by the beach.
