Saverne is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department in Alsace in north-eastern France. It is situated on the Rhine-Marne canal at the foot of a pass over the Vosges Mountains, and 45 km (27 mi) N.W. of Strasbourg.
Saverne is a small town with the region’s characteristic steep pitched roofs and window boxes. It is a great base from which to explore the northern Vosges. Sights in the town include the Chateau des Rohan, the town’s famed rose garden, the ruined castles of Haut-Barr and the Karlsbräu brewery.
