Zermatt is a municipality in the district of Visp in the German-speaking section of the canton of Valais in Switzerland. Located just 10km from the Italian border (Cervina) you can ski in the morning in Switzerland, have lunch in Italy an hour later and be back in Zermatt for dinner.

Surround by a range of fabulous mountains, lying at the foot of the most photographed mountain in the world, the Matterhorn, Zermatt epitomises the image of Switzerland being high alpine and awe inspiring.

The region called "Matterhorn Glacier Paradise" is one of Europe's premier ski resorts swells to some 20,000 guests during the winter high-season.

To prevent air pollution, Zermatt is a combustion engine car free zone. Nearly all the vehicles in Zermatt are battery operated and almost completely silent. Battery operated taxis and buses serve the village along with horse drawn carriages.

Cog railway train or taxi from the village of Täsch which is approximately 7km away.

Trains also depart for Zermatt from further down the valley at Visp and Brig, which are connected to the Swiss rail network.
