Crown Island is situated in Hickory Bay in Banks Peninsula, not too far from Christchurch in the Canterbury District on the South Island (or Te Waipounamu) of New Zealand. The South Island is the larger of the two major islands of New Zealand.
Akaroa is the closest town with one of New Zealand's most stunning harbours.
New Zealand is well known for its Maori heritage and culture; its diverse natural beauty and superb gastronomic delights. New Zealand generally has it all - so it is little wonder that either or both Islands are a popular place to cruise to and visit. Whether it is seeing the snow covered mountain-fringed and glacier areas, admiring the magnificent fjords or standing in awe before a spectacular active volcano, mud bubbling up out of the ground or witnessing a spurting hot geyser or looking at the spectacular wildlife and very different flora, the Land of the Long White Cloud is unlikely to disappoint.
The best time to cruise here is the High Season of December to February, with the Low Season being May to August. Weather in New Zealand is never so miserable that there’s no point in going, but with temperatures ranging from 20 – 30 degrees Celsius, the summer months are the peak cruising times. The downside of the peak season is it will be more expensive and more popular. It is also worth noting that the South Island can be colder than the North Island, even in summer.
Cruises to New Zealand are offered all year round and there are always things to see and do.
