Cu Lao Gieng is located on the Mekong River between Sadec and Chau Doc, Vietnam. It was once an important monastic complex with an orphanage, school, hospice, and leprosy centre housing more than 1,000 people. Nowadays Cu Lao Gian is run as a retreat for older nuns.
Cu Lao Gien island offers the opportunity to visit the Catholic monastery built by the French nuns of “Saint Paul de Chartres” in 1875. It is located in the middle of fields and green jungle but boasts impressive architecture.
