Located on the Cosat del Azahar, Castellon de la Plana is the captial city of the Castello province in Valencia. It is bordered by the provinces of Valencia, Teruel, Tarragona and the Mediterranean Sea. The Desert de les Palmes mountain range rises inland north of the town.
Founded in 1251 by King James I of Aragon it was surrounded by fortifications and became the a centre for rope making in the Middle Ages. With the city walls demolished and a railway line opening to Valencia and Tarragona in the 19th century, Castellon expanded dramatically.
Castellon del la Plana, bridges the distance between the historic and modern with plazas dating back to medieval times and a bustling avenue called “Avenida Rey Don Jaime” filled with shops and buildings.
