Koumac is a municipality in the North Province of New Caledonia, approximately 362 km’s from the capital Noumea. It is the crossroads of the far North , the starting point for going to Poum or towards the East Coast by crossing the ranges in the direction of Ouégoa. A farming and mining municipality, the town is small, but with adequate facilities for residents and tourists.
Attractions include the water sports centre in Pandop , the Koumac fair (September), horse riding, water activities and Pandop marina. The Koumac caves located near the village, are also a must. Not far from the caves, at the foot of the cliffs, sits a Madonna tucked away in the rock near a pretty grassland area.

There are also flights from various Pacific nations, New Zealand, Australia, and Southeast Asia.
