Lambassa Is, Papua New Guinea

Lambassa Island is located in the New Ireland Province of Papua New Guinea. It is situated 1km from the southwest coast of the New Ireland mainland. The island is infamous for the Marquis de Ray’s settlement saga, where he sold hundreds of hectares useless jungle to gullible settlers.

Lamassa offers fantastic opportunities for swimming, and snorkeling from its perfect white, sandy, jungle-lined beach. There are also small fjords to explore. The lush tropical vegetation is home to bright green skinks and beautiful Barringtonia flowers. Visitors are usually welcomed with a reenactment of the first European arrival on the island.
