Merzig is the capital of the district Merzig-Wadern, in Saarland, Germany. It is situated on the river Saar, approx. 35 km south of Trier, and 35 km northwest of Saarbrücken. The region is famous for its fruit juices and apple wine.
Merzig offers historical buildings that span of an eight century history, such as St Peter’s church which is an impressive example of the Romanesque style. Historical farmhouses, built with a French flair, are a reminder that the French region of Lorraine isn’t far away. The Town Hall is a lovely white marvel with delicate red trim along its edges.
