Colonia del Sacramento is a city in southwestern Uruguay, by the Río de la Plata, facing Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is renowned for its historic quarter, which is filled with old colonial buildings and cobbled streets, and is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The old city holds Colonia’s main attractions. There are nine small museums to visit and plenty of restaurants which serve the local speciality called asado (barbeque).
