Konigstein is a town in the Free State of Saxony in Germany. It is located in the geographic region known as the Saxon Switzerland. The town lies in between Pirna and the Czech border at the confluence of the Biela with the Elbe.
There are many places of interest: walking through the lovely Woog Valley (Woogtal), visiting the two castles, strolling the romantic historic center and visiting the town museum. Konigstein is also a famous spa town.
The area surrounding Konigstein is characterized by green hills, luscious orchards, colorful forests and more than 140 well marked circular walking trails, old castle ruins, pictorial villages and alleys. Its most famous attraction is the Festung Konigstein fortress, Germany’s biggest fortress. It is host to a museum, thematic exhibitions, a restaurant and a variety of events.

Transport Links – The S-Bahn train S1 runs mostly twice per hour from Dresden (and Meiben) to Konigstein. Konigstein is 40 minutes from Dresden and 5 to ten minutes from popular Saxon Switzerland towns Stadt Wehlen and Kurort Rathen near the Bastei Bridge viewing point.
