Tikopia Is, Solomons

Tikopia island is located in the Temotu province of the Solomon Islands. It is a small, remote island which is the remnant of an extinct volcano. Its highest point, Mt. Reani, reaches an elevation of 380 m above sea level. Lake Te Roto covers an old volcanic crater which is 80 m deep. Vegetation and human settlements in Tikopia were devastated following Cyclone Zoe's landfall in December 2002.

Tikopian society is very traditional, four chiefs rule the island and two neighbouring islands of Anuta and Fatutaka. Visitors must ask permission of the chief before exploring the island.
