Darnah (Derna) is a city located in north-eastern Libya, northern Africa. Lying on the northern coast of the Cyrenaica region, Darnah is located on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea, 254 kms east of the city of Banghāzī. It lies on the eastern ridges of the Green Mountains (Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar) in the delta of the valley of Darnah (Wady Darnah), which divides the city into two sides: the eastern bank and the western bank.
In winter, Darnah is a popular tourist destination because of its various landscapes, beautiful views and unique historical landmarks. Sahaba Mosque is one of Darnah’s famous landmarks, which was built beside the Sahaba Cemetery. The other must see landmark is Souq Edlam “darkness market”, one of the old markets, located in the center of the old city. Shalal Darnah “Darnah’s waterfall” is also a unique and wonderful natural landmark, which lies in the south of the city.
