Fort Myers is the county seat and commercial center of Lee County, Florida, United States. The city is one of two major cities that make up the Cape Coral-Fort Myers MSA, the other being Cape Coral. It is located along the shady, moss-draped shores of the Caloosahatchee River.
Fort Myers is known as the "City of Palms" for its palm-lined streets. The major attractions are the homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, which are separated by a fence called "The Friendship Gate." The annual Edison Festival of Light Pageant celebrates the inventor's contributions to the city. For beach-goers, Fort Myers' beaches have a laid-back feel and act as a gateway to several islands, including Sanibel and Captiva Islands.
