Tangier Island, Virginia, USA

Tangier is a town in Accomack County, Virginia, United States, on Tangier Island in the Chesapeake Bay. Because of its distance from the mainland, Tangier is very isolated, its nearest neighbors being other islands such as Smith Island, Maryland. Tangier is often referred to as the "soft-shell crab capital of the world".

Tangier retains many customs and much of the appearance of an earlier era, thanks in part to the remarkably recent introduction of modern amenities and technology. Visitors can stroll through the delightful village, abundant with crab shanties, shops, a soft-shell crab exhibit, a small museum and charming homes.
