Ribbon Reef, Queensland, Australia

The Ribbon Reef chain is located between Cooktown and the Cod Hole, in far north Queensland. It is a 99 km turquoise chain of ribbon reefs which is the most prized dive region in the northern section of the Great Barrier Reef. You will see spectacular concentrations of pristine coral and a myriad of brightly colorful tropical fish. The currents that channel between the ribbon reefs attract bigger fish population than elsewhere.

Ribbon Reef No.5 is one of the Marine Park's most spectacular and remote destinations lying on the edge on the continental shelf. It's a true `barrier' reef and home to a profusion of unbelievable sea creatures.

Port Location - Cairns Seaport is the closest port to the Great Barrier Reef and is located on Trinity Inlet. It is a picturesque port, with passenger terminals and marina facilities located virtually in the central business district.

Transport Links – Hinterland Aviation offer a regular service from Cairns to Cooktown with flights 3 times a day Monday to Friday and a Saturday morning flight.

Country Road Coachlines travel by both the coastal and inland routes, connecting Cairns and Cooktown three times a week. The coastal service also stops in Port Douglas and the inland service in Kuranda.

The Cairns International Airport is located only several minutes drive north of the city centre. Direct flights are available to and from Cairns from most eastern states. Several international carriers serve Cairns from various Asian cities and New Zealand. Long-distance trains operated by Queensland Rail's Traveltrain, run from Brisbane several times a week. Greyhound Australia buses pull into Trinity Wharf Centre on Wharf Street in the center of town. Buses travel from the south via all towns and cities on the Bruce Highway, and down north from Darwin and Alice Springs.
