Talcahuano is a municipality and port city in the Bio-Bio Region of Chile. It is situated 16 km northeast of the city of Concepción in the bay of Talcahuano. It is the main military, industrial and fishing port of this region of the country.The main Chilean naval base is found in Talcahuano, close to the Naval Academy.

When in Talcahuano you should visit the seaside promenade Ventana al Mar, the Remolcado de Alta Mar Poderoso, declared a National Monument, the Huáscar Monitor, the beaches of Ramuntcho and Rocoto, the Hualpén Museum and Park and the fish market.

Transport Links – Talcahuano has its own airport, called Carriel Sur. There are frequent flights every day from Santiago to Concepción and Talcahuano. The duration of the flight is approximately 1 hour.

At the moment there is a night train service between Santiago and Talcahuano.

Buses leave every hour from the main terminals of Santiago, and the journey takes 6 hours. There are daily departures from the regions.
