Rugen, Germany

Rügen is Germany's largest island located in the Baltic Sea, off the coast of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It is well known for its shining white chalk cliffs, kilometers of long fine sandy beaches, calm expanses of beech woods and the beauty of Cape Arkona.

The island has some crowded tourist resorts along the eastern coast as well as quieter locations in the west. The island's largest town, and also the district seat, is Bergen which lies roughly in the centre of Rügen. A highlight is the Jasmund National Park.
