Fernandina island is the third largest and youngest island of the Galápagos Islands. Like the others, the island was formed by the Galápagos hotspot. The island is an active shield volcano that has been erupting since April 11, 2009. Fernandina is home to a large colony of marine iguanas, Galapagos Penguins and flightless cormorants.
Visitors to Fernandina have a dry landing at Punta Espinoza, located at the northeast of the island. The trip to the shore can be filled with obstacles such as marine iguanas and mangrove branches.
