Torun, Poland

Torun is an ancient city in northern Poland, on the Vistula River. It is one of the oldest cities in Poland and the birthplace of the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. In 1997 the medieval part of the city was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2007 the Old Town in Toruń was added to the list of Seven Wonders of Poland.

Torun is famous for having preserved almost intact its medieval spatial layout and many Gothic buildings, all built from brick, including monumental churches, the Town Hall and many burgher houses. The most interesting monuments are the Gothic churches, the Cathedral of SS. John the Evangelist and John the Baptist, the Old Town Hall, the city fortifications, and a large number of preserved Gothic Houses.

There are many bus connections to Toruń, and the bus station is just a short walk from the Old Town.
