Simbirsk (Ulyanosvsk) is the principal city and capital of Ulyanovsk Oblast in Russia. It is located on the Volga River, 893 kilometers east of Moscow.Simbirsk was the birthplace and boyhood home of Lenin and therefore formerly a Soviet shrine. It was later renamed Ulianovsk after Vladimir Ulyanov (Lenin). It has now been re(re)named Simbirsk.
As the home town of Lenin, it's worth visiting the Lenin Memorial Centre and Gardens and museums based in his former houses. There is also a museum dedicated to the poet 'Goncharov' and the war memorial at the end of the main street 'Ulitsa Goncharova' offers breathtaking views over the Volga.
