Half Moon Caye Reserve, Belize

Half Moon Caye Natural Monument is one of 450 cays located in the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System. This Barrier Reef is 300 kilometers long and is Belize’s top tourist destination. It is home to a large diversity of plants and animals and was designated as a World Heritage site in 1996.

Half Moon Caye Natural Monument is best known for its population of Red-footed Boobies which nest in the Ziricote thicket at the western end of the caye. The Boobies live on the caye for about 10 months of the year. Nesting starts around mid-December and the young hatch around March.
