Ship Cove is situated on the west shore of Queen Charlotte Sound near the entrance and directly opposite Motuara Island. This infamous cove is where Captain Cook stopped several times on his journeys of discovery to New Zealand from 1770 to 1777. There is a memorial flanked by canons that was presented by the British Admiralty.
Ship Cove is well known as a starting point for walkers of the Queen Charlotte Track. It also offers spectacular scenery, glistening waterways, adventure activities, recreational delights and an enjoyable sunny climate.
