Shimizu (Shizuoka), Japan

Shimizu is a town located in Suntō District, Shizuoka, Japan. Shimizu is located at the northern end of Izu Peninsula. In 2005, Shimizu was absorbed by the neighboring city of Shizuoka.The Kakita River flows through the town. The Port of Shimizu is famous for its Japanese mandarin oranges, and there are many green tea farms in the mountains surrounding the city. The port is the country’s leading tuna landing fishing port.

The Port of Shimizu is located in a beautiful area with many opportunities for travelers. Within the city is the S-Pulse Dream Plaza, a modern complex that contains Japan’s first sushi museum, Chibimaruko-chan Land, and the Shimizu Soccer Museum. Miho no Matsubara is the peninsula stretching into Matsubara Bay. With wonderful green pine trees, white waves on a crystal blue sea, and great views of Mount Fuji in the background.

The Port of Shimizu is just 37 kilometers southeast of the famous Mount Fuji, Japan’s highest mountain and a sacred site. This dormant volcano last erupted in 1708. You can enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Fuji from the very popular Hakone resort.

Port Location – The port of Shimizu is approximately 30 mins on foot, 10 mins by bus and 8 mins by taxi from JR Shimizu Station.

Travel Links – Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport opened in June 2009 between Makinohara and Shimada. Startup carrier Fuji Dream Airlines is based at the new airport. Flights are limited: there is no service to Tokyo, Nagoya or Kansai; only a few international flights to Seoul and Shanghai plus domestic connections to Kyushu.

Shizuoka is a stop on the Tokaido Main Line and Tokaido Shinkansen Line between Tokyo and Osaka, and on the Tomei Expressway.

JR Kanto Bus and JR Tokai Bus run frequent daytime services to Shizuoka on the Tomei Expressway between Tokyo and Nagoya. Shizuoka-bound Tokkyū buses from Tokyo reach the Shizuoka train station in about 3 hours.
