Poum, New Caledonia

Poum is a commune located on the most northerly tip of the island of New Caledonia, approximately 424 km’s north of Noumea. It is situated in the world's largest lagoon and is rich in Kanak culture.

Poum is a remote destination with four beautiful white sand beaches and large coral reefs. There is not much to see in Poum itself, however there is a small tribal village to visit where the locals are most welcoming.

Port Location – Cruise ship passengers are met at the port and are shuttled in a quaint tourist train along the foreshore to the village of Poum.

Travel Links – There are flights between Noumea and Koumac, from here you can catch a bus, a little over 50km to the southwest. Poum is at the end of the RT1, 340km northwest of Noumea, and bus travellers have to change at Koumac.
