Larsemann Hills are a series of low rounded coastal hills along the SE shore of Prydz Bay, a deep embayment of Antarctica between the Lars Christensen Coast and Ingrid Christensen Coast.
The Chinese Zhongshan station is situated on the Larsemann Hills in Prydz Bay, and is only a few kilometres from the nearby Russian Progress II Station and the summer only Australian Law Base. It is the second Chinese Antarctic base to be opened when it opened on the 26th February, 1989. It is usually supplied from the nearby Australian Davis Base. Zhongshan is set along the ice-free coast in a region known for wildlife.
