Westport is the largest centre on the northwest coast and is used as a starting point for visits to the Oparara Basin Arches, Cape Foulwind and Buller Gorge.
Outdoor adventure activities are popular in and around Westport. The Coaltown Museum is worth a visit and an organised heritage walk around the town is memorable. Other attractions include the West Brewery and Utopia Pottery.
