Palmyra Atoll is an incorporated atoll administered by the United States government located in the Northern Pacific Ocean. Geographically, Palmyra is one of the Northern Line Islands (southeast of Kingman Reef and north of Kiribati Line Islands), located almost due south of the Hawaiian Islands, roughly halfway between Hawaii and American Samoa.
Palmyra Atoll is primarily privately owned by the Nature Conservancy with the rest owned by the US government and managed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. There are species of sea and migratory birds, hermit crabs, coconut crabs, and land crabs are large and numerous. There is a small but interesting insect fauna; no butterflies and no mosquitoes.
