New London, Conneticut

New London is a seaport city and a port of entry on the northeast coast of the United States. It is most well-known for its rich maritime history and for being the location of the United States Coast Guard Academy and America’s Tall ship the Barque Eagle. It is also known as an historic whaling port.

New London offers many places of historic interest as well as a lively downtown and a refurbished waterfront. Attractions include visiting the Hempstead Houses, tour the Shaw-Perkins Mansion which was the home of Revolutionary War Naval Agent Nathaniel Shaw or schedule an appointment to the Robert Mills U.S. Customs House, the nation’s oldest operating customs office where the ship Amistad was docked for over a year.

Port Location – The port facilities are located at Admiral Harold E. Shear State Pier, which is close to downtown New London.

Transport Links – New London is serviced by T.F. Green Airport and Bradley International Airport, which are 1 and 1.5 hours drive from New London respectively.

Amtrak New London Station NLC offers Acela Express service (first class service with business class seating, conference tables, cafe car and a seat cart service) and Regional service to and from East Coast cities.

Greyhound and Peter Pan/Arrow Bus Lines have daily scheduled services to New London from nearby and out-of-state locations.

There are also ferries available from Long Island. The Port Jefferson Ferry runs from Central Long Island and the Cross Sound Ferry runs from Orient Point, Long Island, New York.
