Bernkastel is a well-known winegrowing centre on the Middle Moselle in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Situated on both sides of the river, this medieval town is a state recognized health resort and the birth place of famous scholar Nicolas of Cusa.
The historical old town of Bernkastel-Kues features medieval buildings built as far back as the 15th century. Visitors can marvel at the Spitzhäuschen", built in 1416, the splendid renaissance town hall built in 1608, the marvellous St. Michael's Well and the pretty St. Michael's Parish Church with its mighty tower. Other places of interest include the impressive Graacher Tor, an old town gate where you will find the town museum. You might as well visit Cusanus-Haus where the famous scholar Nicolas of Cusa was born in 1401.
