Volendam is a town in North Holland in the Netherlands, in the municipality of Edam-Volendam. Located only 20 minutes from Amsterdam, it is a popular tourist destination with traditional costumes, wooden shoes and a bustling harbour area.
What draws most travellers to Volendam, is the typical village centre with its old houses, the b harbour area and fishermen's town atmosphere. Just walking around the old centre take you to the oldest part, sometimes called "the labyrinth", for its narrow streets and seemingly random plan.
