Waiheke Island is in the Hauraki Gulf of New Zealand and is located about 17.7 km from Auckland.The second-largest (after Great Barrier Island) of all the gulf islands, is also the most populated and the most accessible due to regular ferry and air services. Waiheke is the third most populated island in New Zealand, after the North and South Islands.

The climate on Waiheke is well suited for winemaking and there are 14 vineyards to visit on the island. Olives are also grown on the island and some particularly nice olive oils are produced.

Uncrowded white sand beaches can be found on the northern side of Waiheke, while on the southern side beaches are quite tidal and swimming is dependent on the tides.

Port Location – The port is located in Matiatia harbor, 20 minutes walk from the main town of Oneroa.

Transport Links – There is a privately operated airport, Waiheke Island Aerodrome, near Onetangi Bay. The ferry terminal is located at Matiatia harbor and provides transport to and from Auckland.
Helilink makes charter helicopter flights to Waiheke.
