Peterhead is situated in Aberdeenshire, at the easternmost point in mainland Scotland. Peterhead is Aberdeenshire's largest settlement. It has a relatively diverse economy, including food processing, textiles, service industries and, importantly, fishing. Peterhead is also home to one of Scotland's high security prisons and until April 2005 was home of the nearby Royal Air Force station - RAF Buchan. The harbours, maritime and heritage buildings are the town's principal tourism assets.
Peterhead is the heart of Buchan, featuring sleepy villages, ancient monuments and miles of contrasting coastline; from dramatic cliff tops to the most perfect golden beaches you'll ever see. Walking, cycling, golfing, fishing and bird watching are just a few leisure pursuits available in and around Peterhead.
