Kushiro is a city located in Kushiro, Hokkaidō, Japan. It is the capital city of Kushiro Subprefecture, as well as the most populous city in eastern Hokkaidō. It is home to Japan's largest marshland and is a year-round home to endangered Japanese cranes, making it a popular stop for birders.
The Port of Kushiro offers numerous interesting places to visit. The Kushiro City Museum’s architecture represents a Japanese crane with wings spread. It contains great exhibits of the area’s natural history. The Port of Kushiro’s Fisherman’s Wharf MOO is a busy marketplace on the waterfront with many shops, restaurants, and recreational facilities where you can relax and watch the fishing boats. The Kushiro Art Museum, near the Fisherman’s Wharf offers many charming exhibits.
The Kushiro City Marsh Observatory is situated in the Kushiro Shitsugen, visitors should climb the stairs to the top of the Kushiro City Marsh Observatory and take in the views of the luscious forests that surround the area. There are also forested walking trails and a replicated Ainu settlement.

Port Location – The Port of Kushiro is located on the eastern shores of Hokkaido. It is located approximately 1.1km from downtown area and 1.5km to Kushiro station.
Travel Links – Haneda Airport (Tokyo) to Kushiro Airport is a 90 minute plane ride. Rental cars are available across the street from the airport.
Sapporo Station to Kushiro Station is a 4 hour train ride. It is the last stop on the Super Oozora Limited Express train. There are 6 trains daily from Sapporo.
Kushiro Bus operates daily buses (one midday bus and one overnight bus) to and from Sapporo.
