Winningen is a municipality in the district of Mayen-Koblenz in Rhineland-Palatinate, western Germany. It is known for its wines and particularly for the Moselfest, which is the oldest wine festival in Germany. Winningen is a gateway to the Terrassenmosel (Terraced Mosel), the portion of the river characterized by steep, terraced vineyards. Winches help winegrowers and their tools make the ascent, but tending and harvesting the vines are all done by hand.
