Bonn was the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany (previously, West Germany) and lies on the river Rhine some 20 km south of Cologne. Bonn is probably best known as Beethoven's birth place.
The city centre itself is not very big and you are able to reach the different attractions there by foot. Attractions include some beautiful baroque churches, museums and galleries. Beethoven Haus is well worth a visit. The museum is dedicated to the life and work of the famous composer. Visitors will also enjoy the romantic charm of Bonn's Old Town (visit the Marketplatz for shopping) and the grandeur of the baroque Kreuzberg Church. From the Old Customhouse (Alter Zoll) you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Rhine Valley and the Siebengebirge mountain chain.
