Hong Gai is gateway to Halong Bay and the Red River Delta. It is the capital city of Quảng Ninh Province, Vietnam. The city mainly lies on Bai Tu Long Bay, which is part of the Hạ Long Bay. It is located at about 160 km northeast of Hanoi.
This region, the "Bay of the Descending Dragon", is dotted with more than 3,000 mountainous islands, each with its own unique landscape. The islands are famous for their dolomite and limestone rock formations, many of which have been given names. Visitors visit the area to see its natural grottos, fjords, land tunnels and inlets.
