The Mediterranean island of Lampedusa belongs to Italy and is the largest of the Pelagie Islands, situated 205 km from Sicily and 113 km from Tunisia. It consists of a flat limestone platform which culminates, at the northern end, in a series of dramatic cliffs. The island is surrounded by a spectacular seascape, making it a paradise for snorkelers and divers.
The only city on Lampedusa, develops around the main Roma street, where there are a cluster of shops and cafés with outdoor tables, and live music or entertainment in Summer. Most other attractions are found along the coastline, including secluded bays and grottos, the Caretta-Caretta turtles and the Capo Grecale lighthouse.
